If I only had..........
If I only looked like.......
If only I could.......
If only I was married to.......
If only I could make....... dollars.

As long as my children are happy.......
As long as my children are good people.......
As long as I'm not uncomfortable.......
As long as I'm happy.......
What do we think would satisfy us? What do we need to acquire, achieve, possess, receive credit for in order to be satisfied?
C.S. Lewis said,
"We are far too easily pleased. God wants better things for us. He finds our desires not too strong, but too weak."
The psalmist points out evil, wicked men and says that God satisfies them with wealth, hidden treasure from God, and children / families. This doesn't sound much different than what Christians today are hoping for. I know that these are the things I thank God for on a regular basis.
"We are far too easily pleased."
The psalmist dismisses this satisfaction. It is wholly unsatisfactory to him. He is waiting and hoping for something more, something much much more.
"I shall be satisfied when I wake up in Your image."
He is essentially saying, "There is nothing in this life that I am willing to settle for and say, 'It is enough.' Only my complete transformation and restoration to God's image will be enough for me, and that won't happen until I've died and awaken in His presence."
What would satisfy you?
What are you willing to settle for?
