There are so many places where we see God's people turn from Him, get themselves in trouble, then cry out to Him for help.
This is not one of those places.
The psalmist here has not walked away from God. God's people have not departed from Him (v.18), and yet they are persecuted and oppressed.
This is the cry of they faithful.
This is the lamentation of the disciple...
...of the martyr.
In Romans 8:36 Paul asks "what can separate us from the love of God in Christ", pointing to this Psalm, then goes on to say "we are more than conquerors."
As hard pressed as this writer is, Paul sees victory here because not even this kind of trial can separate us from our Lord.
