Psalm 39

David is absolutely distraught over something, perhaps the death of his son Absalom.

In his sorrow he tries to hold his tongue because he doesn't want to lose control in his grief and end up slandering God.

But eventually his sorrow is too much for him to bear and he cries out to God, complaining in a way about the shortness of life (more like acknowledging with a bit of fear).

He even admits that he tried to remain quiet knowing it was God's hand behind the situation, but asks Him now to relent.

David sees it as a chastisement and asks God to stop because it's too much for him to bear.
