That sense of confidence in our own integrity, innocence, and faithfulness—it usually accompanies a feeling of closeness or intimacy with God. We love that feeling. It's where we were designed to live!! But our confidence is so easily misplaced. We feel confident in ourselves, not God. But only He is able to hold us steady. Otherwise, we are thrown about too easily.
David is calling for God's redemption here, but it also sounds like he's self-confident that he would never be numbered with the transgressors he speaks of.
But 25 chapters from now in Psalm 51 he will find himself standing before the Lord repenting of adultery and murder.
