Psalm 20:4

I have heard that when we read the Psalms we can read them not only as the writings of David, but because they are inspired by the Spirit we can read them as the prayers of Christ.

If that's true, then verse 4 really throws me for a loop.

When we pray we are supposed to be praying for God's will to be done, aren't we?

I always feel like asking for what I personally want is self-centered, which God doesn't want. After all, isn't it His glory and honor that we are supposed to be seeking?

But if we can red this as Jesus' prayer, then we see Jesus praying that God would give us our heart's desire, and fulfill our purposes!!

I would expect Him to pray that our hearts be aligned with God's will and that we adopt His purposes.

Can this be true?

Is this what He wants, to give me what I desire?
