Psalm 14:6

"You shame the counsel of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge." v.6

We look for advice from those that have worldly/financial success because we assume that they are knowledgeable, wise, and we want the same kind of success.

Or perhaps it's not success we're after. Maybe it's wisdom or reputation.

We look at them and think they must be wise and knowledgeable to have achieved so much.

But most of them have also learned to trust in themselves and in their wealth.

So they may have a bit of worldly wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that has real significance, for that kind of wisdom only comes from the Lord and always relies on Him.

We do not seek out the advice, counsel, or wisdom of the poor.

Instead, we push them aside saying, "Ignorant", "Uneducated", "Unsuccessful" and assume therefore that even if they do have some sort of wisdom, it must not be worth much because it obviously hasn't improved their standard of living.

But the poor often learn to rely on God, to trust Him, and to seek Him.

This in itself is a far greater wisdom than any kind that would enrich a person's wealth.

I have often observed those that have enormous wealth (as much as I have exposure to in media). They often act very foolishly, and I think, "It is truly God's gift of grace to them that they are so wealthy, because without such substantial wealth, anyone that foolish would surely get themselves killed. His grace has preserved them not in spite of their foolishness, but precisely because of it."
